Our Home - The Beginning

First of all, we would like to say Thank You to Rob's whole family for splitting off a piece of land so that we are able to build the house of our dreams. Thank You!

We are starting to build a Lincoln Logs log home.  We've been designing our floor plan for almost 2 years, with a ton of help from our dealer, Patlin Enterprises. Nikki Patlin (who, to no fault of her own, is a Steelers fan) has been wonderful to work with and has helped us design the home of our dreams. Now that the design phase is over, our builder, Bruce Cast will be helping us make that dream house a reality.  We are now starting to hire sub-contractors and design the interior, which is harder than we expected! There are so many choices for faucets, floors and appliances...it's all a little mind-boggling.  All of the hard work will be worth it, and we can't wait to finally move into the home of our dreams!!

Well that's it! The preparation is done. It felt like we'd never get there but we are finally putting up logs! Go to the "Our Home - Construction" page to see the continuation of our project.

Day 71:
(8.31.07) The rest of the concrete was pouored today. We put our handprints in a corner of our garage.....awwwww...how cute!

The pipe in the middle of nowhere is for lights under the car lift : )

Day 70: (8.30.07) The first floor deck is done. Now it's time for logs! Yeay! The slab you see is for the A/C, Generator, ETC....There is a cellar door on either side of it. One has stairs and the other is to drop firewood down...

Our basement....I think we're about ready to just move in down there.....we'd have more space than we do now!!!

Day 67: (8.27.07) Straps are being installed today.  Since Hurricane Katrina, a lot of shoreline cities have adopted a stricter wind code. The wind load recently went from 90mph to 110mph. No big deal, right? WRONG. It's a pain in the butt!! With all the straps and bolts the engineers are making us have our house better not budge, ever. So, if there's a hurricane in the forecast......you're all welcome to come over to our bomb shelter of a house!

Some straps are typical, one every 16 inches with bigger, beefier straps at the corners is for our house (The perimeter of our house is over 300 feet..........you do the math):

The washers on the right are typical, the ones on the left are for our house:

Day 63: (8.23.07) The first floor deck is nearly done!

Day 51: (8.11.07) Nils came over today to help Rob build stairs for the cellar door.

Day 50: (8.10.07) Our beautiful custom handmade entry door arrived today! We opened it up a bit just to take a peek. It is a double door and each side mirrors the other perfectly. I can't wait for it to be installed!!

Day 49: (8.9.07) The basement floor was poured

Day 48: (8.8.07) Backfilling is complete.

Day 46: (8.6.07) The dirt around the garage was backfilled and the garage filled with gravel. Also the underground gutter drains were installed .

Day 42: (8.2.07) The foundation is poured, waterproofed and insulated. Now we just need to pour the floors and backfill and the foundation will be done!!!

Day 39: (7.30.07) Foundation walls are framed! The concrete guy finally got back from his 2 week vacation and started framing our foundation walls. They should be finished by the end of the week...

Day 36: (7.27.07) WE HAVE A HOUSE!!!!! Ok, so it still needs to be put together....but it's still a house!! Yeay!!
Just look at that house!

Tim from Patlin Enterprises helped us check everything in....Thanks Tim!

This is our builder, Bruce Cast. He and his son unloaded all 3 trucks for us. Thanks Bruce!

Day 26: (7.17.07) Another day installing drain pipes.

Day 25: (7.16.06) The footing drain pipes and the gravel are going in!

Day 18: (7.9.07) The footings are now poured!
The giant slab near the middle there is our HUGE fireplace!! Looks like my car could fit on it!!

Day 8: (6.29.07) The footings are framed out

Day 5: (6.26.07) We have a whole hole!

Day 4: (6.25.07) We have a partial hole!!!!!

Day 2: (6.23.07) Staked out house outline for excavator.

The picture didn't show the stake line too well so i made it thicker on the computer. And added some room names for those of you who have never seen our floorplan. The garage wouldn't fit on the picture but it's in the bottom left corner......

Day 1: (6.22.07) Well it's finally happened! We have a BUILDING PERMIT!!! Yeay!!! We also now have an address number. 13 Timbers Lane. Seems appropriate for this jinxed project. Maybe it will bring us some luck though.....
6.10.07 The paperwork is basically done. The town has our permit application again and we are hoping to have a building permit next week! Keep your fingers crossed!
5.27.07 We put up an arbor that will frame the house as you are driving up the private road.

5.16.07 Temporary Electric is in!
